A very quick message for you this week. Please take the opportunity to be at the Southwest Guilford High School Walk the Schedule night tomorrow evening, Monday, February 3rd. The event starts at 6:30 as parents can walk the schedule and meet their student's teachers. Please bring a copy of your student's schedule with you so you know the locations and order in which to visit your classes. If you do not have a copy, we can gladly print one up in the main office.

Hello Southwest!

We have had a GREAT start to the 2nd semester! Let's keep this up all the way through to the end of the year!

There is a PTSA meeting Monday night in the Media Center from 6PM to 7:30PM. Please come out and see how you can support the school. 

Report cards for the 1st semester will be distributed on Thursday January 30. Please make sure you are monitoring your student's attendance and academics on the Parent Portal. Directions and access can be found on the school's website.

We want to reintroduce you to an incredible resource we have available for our student/athletes.  Southwest Guilford High School has purchased this resource that is a "one stop shop" for the college recruiting process and NCAA eligibility.  There are companies out there that will charge you thousands of dollars for this same information that we have available to you for free.  If your son or daughter is a student athlete who desires to compete on the next level, this resource is a "must use".  Please contact Coach Christman or Coach Rainey for more information.

SWGHS Principal's weekly updates for January 22

Hello Southwest!

Please enjoy this extended weekend with an American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.  This holiday celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.

Now that we have finished up the first semester, we begin semester number 2 on Wednesday. Report cards for the 1st semester will be distributed on Thursday January 30. Please make sure you are monitoring your student's attendance and academics on the Parent Portal. Directions and access can be found on the school's website.

Mark your calendars... Monday, February 3rd, 6:30-8:00 pm - Walk the schedule night!  

We have a 20 minute homeroom on the first day of the 2nd semester. Students should report to their homeroom to make sure they have the most updated schedule. Homeroom will be 8:10-8:30  (1st block starts at 8:35 - all other bells remain the same)

All students must use the OneCard system starting on Wednesday. If students are arriving from GTCC, Weaver, etc, students must report to attendance and swipe in at the attendance office. 

Please remind your student of the school's dress code. All students should be in dress code before the first bell rings. If they do not have the proper dress code on, they can ask for assistance before the day starts. The dress code can be found on the school's website.  Thank you for assisting us with these expectation. 

                       

A big welcome to our newest staff members Jeff Aguiar, our new Theatre Arts teacher, Kelly Flournoy school nurse, Ms. Zulema Silva, Spanish teacher, and Mr. Tony Spates, EC TA, (D136) working with Mrs. Nadeau.  Please give our new staff members a big Cowboy/Cowgirl welcome!

                                           

                                             

Schedules:

If students want to inquire about schedule changes, they have from January 22nd - January 28th. They MUST fill out a schedule change form during this time. They will be able to turn in forms BEFORE and AFTER school OR DURING lunch. The counselors will only give priority to new students, students missing courses and/or have repeated a class. Students/parents should not come to office and wait unless scheduled to do so. Everyone must follow the process. 

  

Registration for SW for the 2020-2021 will take place February 10 - February 21. Counselors will meet with each student in English classes during that time. The counselors met with students who were scheduled in Fall English classes already. 

The registration portal will open up February 15th - February 23rd. During that time, students will be allowed to select courses for the 2020-2021 school year. More information will follow.

Hello Southwest!

As we head into the State Exam week, please make sure your student is studying, eating well and rested up ready to take any of their state exams this coming week.  Students should know exactly where they are testing on their designated days. If they are unsure, they need to ask their teacher. If students do not have an exam on the assigned day, they are not required to come to school due to the overwhelming need for adults to assist with the testing process. Last, there are NO EARLY CHECKOUTS on state exam days. The state exam schedule can be found within this blog.  Thank you for adhering to our expectations.

Happy New Year!  I hope each and everyone of you had an amazing break. We now only have 3 regular instructional days, followed by two full days that include teacher made exams with 5 state exam days thereafter. Please take a quick moment to make sure your student is on the path to end this semester as successful as possible. Any questions or concerns can be brought to the teachers' attention.  Let's finish strong!

We have our last Saturday School of the 1st semester this Saturday from 8AM to Noon for any students who still need to make up time. Students should also be communicating directly to their teachers inquiring about their availability for making up time directly with them. 

The first PTSA Meeting of the new year is this Thursday from 6-7:30 PM in the Media Center. Please come out and support the PTSA. Your willingness to volunteer for the school can be matched to your preference!
