Early July message from the Principal

Cowboy country,

I hope this blog finds you all doing well!  First and foremost, I hope you all enjoy your holiday weekend!

I have a few announcements that I wanted to share with you or remind you of...

Please continue to read during the summer. Check the School's website under the student's tab up top. Or you can click on this link:  Summer Reading   Remember, you are tested on summer reading once you return to school.

As it relates to returning to school, we are waiting on the Governor's orders tomorrow, July 1st, on guidance next school year. Once he announces that, we, as a school system will develop a plan for reopening of schools.  Please make sure you stay on top of Guilford County Schools' communications so you are in the know. I truly hope I get to see all of you soon!

From the desk of Kristy Cline:

Parent and Student Portal access for all schools have been deactivated.

When a parent or student tries to log into their account, there will be a message that will appear stating that the PowerSchool Portal is off line for the summer. The students will gain access on the 2nd day of school. The parents will have access on the 11th day of school.

Please understand the reason it is taken offline is due to the extraordinary amount of changes that are made to individual schedules and the overall matrix throughout the summer. Since counselors are not scheduled full time through the summer, they will maximize their time on working ongoing changes with all schedules. Please do not request conversations about schedules until we have completed scheduling. Thank you very much for understanding this process.

SWGHS Principal's weekly updates for June 15th

Hey there Southwest,

Welcome to the summer break!  I first and foremost want to wish the class of 2020 the very best. I am so proud of all of you as you persevered through this pandemic during the end of your senior class. I believe everyone will agree with me that it looks like your class has been a part of traditions and practices that will forever be in place. No other class can say that. During this time, I truly appreciate all the interactions I have had with all of you, whether through e-mails, text messages, face to face, phone calls, and even in TikTok. While we do not know what the governor will allow us to do come late July, I will still keep you in the loop if we are able to still hold a traditional ceremony. remember, it all comes down to the status of the Governor's orders. I look forward to seeing and hearing about all the great things you are doing!  Be yourself and make everyone proud!!

To our underclassmen, please continue to read during the summer. Please check the School's website under the student's tab up top. Or you can click on this link:  Summer Reading   Remember, you are tested on summer reading once you return to school.

As it relates to returning to school, I have yet to hear what this looks like. That does not surprise me as the Governor will continue to communicate his orders during the summer which in turn impacts the Department of Public Instruction and how or if schools can open. Stay tuned as we continue to receive guidance from the state. I truly hope I get to see all of our students and staff soon! If not, we will do what we do best, and navigate through any upcoming rough waters!

Underclassmen will have their reports mailed no earlier than June 15th.

Have you completed the 2020 Census yet? If not today is a great day to do so!  The process should take less than 10 minutes, would you like me to help you complete it online, or can I provide you with the phone number to do so?
If families answer yes, they would like help in completing the Census, here are the two ways to do so:
                      Or
  • By calling: 844-330-2020, 7am – 1am (EST -Eastern Standard Time)
Families do not need to have their Census ID with them to complete the Census. If they do not have their Census ID with them, click here to start. Then click: “Start Questionnaire”. Follow the basic prompts provided on the screen.

As we continue to navigate these waters and enter into the 2020-2021 school year, I will continue to share information as I receive it. Thank you very much for all that you do. I miss you all. I am so proud of our seniors and their accomplishments over the past 4 years. Good luck to all and I hope everyone enjoys their summer!  We are... Southwest!

SWGHS Principal's weekly updates for June 8...

Hey there Southwest,

What a great week!  Over 95% attendance in the Senior Drive through graduation!  Thank you for all the great compliments. It took the entire staff and the support of GCS to make it happen.Thank you to Piedmont Chapel Church for taping the program (forthcoming soon), Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers for donating the ice cream sandwiches, and Cyndi Raznik for saving us last minute with the helium tank refill!  Congratulations again to all of the 2020 graduates!  We are all so proud of you!
A gentle reminder that we are conducting one more drive through for pick up and drop off of items, including the pick up of yearbooks purchased. Everyone must stay in their cars at all times and wear masks. The last date is this Monday and the time is changed to 5-7 in case the curfew is still in place. Please make a note of that.
Monday, June 8 - 5PM to 7PM

Why should students come to one of these dates?

Underclassmen
-Drop off all textbook and supplies that belong to SW so that you can get my report card and not have to pay for missing materials.
-Drop off Onecard and borrowed lanyard that you may have received from SW.
-Get Yearbook that you purchased.
-Drop off Athletic Uniform so that you do not get charged for it.

Seniors
-Drop off all textbook and supplies that belong to SW so that you can get your diploma and not have to pay for missing materials.
-Pay fees that you owe to the Media Center for missing books or the Cafeteria.
-Drop off Onecard and borrowed lanyard that you got from SW.
-Get Yearbook that you purchased.
-Drop off Athletic Uniform so that you do not get charged for it.

Despite the pandemic, the yearbook is finished and as mentioned earlier, will be distributed one ,more day, June 8th from 5-7.  We still have some books left to purchase, especially for those seniors who want some resemblance of normalcy to their senior year. To maintain social distancing, buy your yearbook online at www.yearbookforever.com and get your hands on something that will remind you of this unprecedented school year (and keep you busy while in quarantine!).

Please take a moment to review the proposed calendar for next school so you can plan appropriately. Please refrain from scheduling any trips during the last week of school as well as the last week of the 2nd quarter due to testing. Calendar link

Underclassmen will have their reports mailed no earlier than June 15th.
