SWGHS Principal's weekly updates and reminders for September 16th

Hello Southwest High School!

I hope this message finds everyone doing well. As we move into week 4, it is important for all parents are guardians to be monitoring grades and attendance, including tardies. Any of our student drivers who show 3 or more tardies will lose parking privileges for a short while, so please help us reinforce the importance of being on time.

To register for an account to monitor your student's grades and attendance, go to PowerSchool under the Parent tab on SWHS website site.
If you had an account, try your old password first,  if it doesn’t work click on “forgot my password”. If all fails and you need assistance, email clinek2@gcsnc.com

One last reminder for AP students to access materials to be better prepared for your AP classes. AP students need to ask their AP teachers to share a join code to access AP classroom resources.

The PSAT is October 16th and is taken by sophomores and juniors. PSAT practice/guide books were distributed this past Monday, September 9th during 3rd block to all sophomores and juniors.  There was also a letter from Mrs. Barnum with information about the PSAT and a helpful website for PSAT test prep. Juniors and sophomores can begin to study for the PSAT by going to www.collegeboard.org for study skills.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the Carolina Panthers are teaming up for #WEARITLIKEAPRO. The four high schools (one per Classification) with the most votes could win the same high-end football helmets the Panthers wear each week. Vote now until October 15 at https://www.panthers.com/fans/wearitlikeapro You can vote as many times as you would like.

One scholarship in the amount of $500 for one 10th-12th grade student will be awarded that night!!!

Free Application for Federal Student Aid Day!

Seniors should start to work on college applications.

FAFSA opens up Oct. 1 so start to begin the application with parents (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa), go to www.cfnc.org for one stop shop for scholarships searches, apply for college, study for tests, send transcripts, and much more.

Look at counseling website for more information on SW site.

Seniors need to complete the NC Residency which is required by all NC Schools. That is also located on cfnc.org.

Students, especially juniors and seniors, begin to tour schools. Register on the college site.

Check remind and emails weekly for information from the counseling department
