Good evening Southwest!
I hope this message finds everyone doing well as we enter this well deserved holiday break! We only have 2 instructional days until our first exam begins on Thursday, January 7th. Please make sure your student is on top of their grades, knows their exam schedule, whether they are face to face for any state exams or remote for any teacher made or GCS final exams. Please notice the expectation for an exam day on Friday, January 8th, and state exam make ups on Friday, January 15th. Within this blog is the framework of the entire SWGHS exam schedule. More specifics will be provided after the holidays or from the teachers. All health and safety protocols will be followed. Any student who does not follow these expectations will be disallowed on campus/ removed from testing with no exceptions. Thank you for having a conversation ahead of time with your student.

*CTE/EOC Exam Week: Students will be coming into the school building to take these exams. Students will be screened once they arrive and must wear a mask. Students who do not comply with the mask expectations will be removed from testing immediately. Students on buses should arrive roughly between 9:35-9:45. Buses will run for students that need transportation. Students need to ask their teacher where to report once at the school on the day of their testing. There will be no early release from exams. If student does not have a CTE or EOC exam, they do not come to the school that week.
Students will not be allowed into the building until 9:15.
Since all phones will be collected and turned off upon the start of exams, phones may be used after the individual classroom's completion of the test. If a student can do one of the following on these days, they will be dismissed...
- Show text message proof that they drive.
- Show that their parents are currently waiting outside - text message.
- Receive text message that their friend is driving them and currently waiting outside.
- Students who registered for the October 29 administration will have to “re-register” for the January 26 if they plan to take the PSAT. Registrations from October 29 will NOT automatically roll-over.
- The PSAT is being held at EACH high school.

"Intro to Racial Equity and Social Justice explores the foundations of big concepts like power, identity, and authority that play various roles in our daily lives. In addition to examining the present, we’ll look into the past to deepen our understanding of how we came to be here, in this place; this now, where racial equity is again centered in our national conversations. In doing so, we’ll discover some ways that we might individually and collectively make a difference in the pursuit of social justice while also recognizing that learning truly is power."
This video has been used district wide to provide information regarding pairing student and parent accounts in Canvas so parents can access what is due, what has been submitted, graded, etc. You’ll see in the video that one of the key pieces is a pairing code that can only originate from the student account holder.
If you are looking for any basic needs: food, school supplies, housing, mental health resources or if you have any other need to assist your students, please contacts our School Social Worker, Emily Wright. She can be reached at 336-709-9537 or via e-mail at Wrighte2@gcsnc.com .
