Spring break is in sight with only 1 week away. That means it is even more pressing for everyone to look at their grades and hit this coming week hard. This coming Friday, March 26th is the end of the 3rd quarter. After Spring Break, those of you who are experienced High School students and parents know that the 4th quarter has a lot of testing between AP, EOCs, CTEs and more. Therefore, this does not allow as much time as previous quarters. I say this so everyone knows that grade monitoring should be heightened as we approach the end of the year. As you all monitor these grades, if you feel there is a discrepancy in the grading, please do not hesitate to contact your student's teachers.

Juniors may opt in to take the SAT for free on Tuesday, April 27 at SWHS by registering online in the Quick Links on the GCS homepage. Any junior wanting to register simply goes to www.gcsnc.com, scroll down to the Quick Links, and click on the SAT School Day Registration link and completes the registration form. That’s it. No further registration is required – not even with the College Board. This is a one stop registration for our juniors. Registration for the free SAT closes on April 9.
We highly recommend you downloading the Crisigo App for ease. Please check out this video! We highly recommend students completing this process before they leave school so upon arrival, all they have to do is show the Green QR code.
Note: This process allows us to gather information about any possible symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, potential exposure to someone currently displaying symptoms or direct contact with someone who has recently tested positive for Covid-19. This includes a temperature check. This is a daily requirement for all individuals who enter our building.
We ask you that everyone answers this screening honestly.
We ask that you do not send your student to school if he or she is complaining of ANY symptoms you have not had evaluated with your doctor. Something as simple as a headache, upset stomach, or allergy type symptom could all be a symptom of Covid-19.
We know there is a flood of information out there. Honesty and transparency are important tools to help minimize the spread of Covid-19.
We cannot predict this virus and know only in part how fast it transmits between people and the long term and short term effects it can have on people. Our goal is to stick together (while socially distanced) and be honest and open with each other.
If by chance your student is not feeling well and has to report to the isolation room, the parent or guardian MUST pick up their student immediately. Paperwork will need to be filled out and returned before the student can return to campus.
The goal for Wednesdays has not changed. Contrary to messages thought or conveyed by others, classes will still be held, both synchronously and asynchronously depending on class needs. Beginning next week, Wednesdays will be a transition day between Mon/Tues and Thurs/Fri cohorts.
What does this mean for the students and parents of SW? In short, classes and learning will still occur Monday -> Friday. Full lessons are being planned for every single day of the week. Students will be expected to engage with these lessons in the appropriate manner whether it be at the school face to face or at home via distance learning. Wednesday lessons will offer students a different interpretation of teaching practices to empower the students to become a more rounded learner, one able to take charge of their own academic destiny. SW Educators will continue to provide a safety net for all students to assist and clarify through email, phone or of course, the one and only MS Teams to chat through whatever the issue.
The big difference is the time allotted for the block. Since all students are remote on Wednesdays, class times will be slightly less than the 90 minute time frame. This will give a break on screen time, and opportunities for students to stay on and ask for assistance from the teachers.

MORE INFORMATION
Students are expected to wear a face covering at all times while on campus, except while eating. This includes arrival to and dismissal from school. Face coverings should be clean and at least two layers.
◾Meals will be eaten in classrooms, not in the cafeteria.
◾Breakfast and lunch are free for all students through the end of the school year.
◾Parents are encouraged to drive their students to campus if possible. If bus transportation is required, please fill out this FORM

- Jeans with fabric underneath covering holes
- Joggers/Sweatpants/Athletic leggings acceptable
- Shorts/dresses not shorter than finger tips or top of knee

- No pajama pants/slippers
- Any t-shirts with no inappropriate language, symbols, alcohol/drug, political views (amongst other items), that can cause disruption, or is inappropriate to the education environment.
- All shirts should have sleeves (no tank tops/muscle shirts) (Be understanding with female dress attire, i.e dresses….)
- Masks - We require students to refrain from wearing masks that can cause disruption to the education environment. Some suggestions for acceptable masks; designs with no words, plain in color, Sw logo, etc.
- Sweatshirts (even with hoods) are acceptable as a primary top – but hoods must stay down while in school
- No hats
- No midriffs, “topdriff”, “Backdriff”
- No transparent clothes
Parking Permits
Students are required to display a SWHS parking decal at all times when parking at SWHS. The fee is only $5 for the Spring 2020-21 semester. All students with a valid drivers license are eligible to purchase a parking decal. Students can get an application from any of their teachers. To get a decal, they will turn in the completed application (including a parent signature), the $5 fee (only checks or money orders will be accepted. NO CASH), and present their valid driver’s license for verification. Here is a copy of the Parking Pass Paperwork.. We are still waiting for the parking passes to arrive. Once they do, we will distribute them and communicate the date when towing starts. In the meantime, thank you for being patient.

Adopt – A – 2021 – Senior
The staff and community members of Southwest Guilford High School want to celebrate YOU!
Your Senior year is one that many look forward to upon entering elementary school. It is also a year that no one never forgets. All of you have certainly made your mark in history with the most senior skip days of any other class……. EVER! So please allow us to help you celebrate by “adopting” you.
Here is how it works:
A Facebook Group has been created for you and your families called Adopt-A-2021-Senior. If you or someone in your family is on Facebook, please search for the group, answer the three questions and join. Staff and community members can either request a senior or be matched up with a senior if they do not know one graduating this year to “adopt” for celebrating. The staff and community member will deliver their celebration gifts to you between May 20th – June 3rd.

CAREER and COLLEGE PROMISE
Career and College Promise offers North Carolina high school students the chance to
earn college credits at a community college campus. The program is
tuition-free for high school juniors and seniors (semester fees will be due). You must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.8 or higher or passing test scores.
Students can earn:
· College credit transferable to all UNC System Institutions and many of NC’s Independent Colleges and Universities
· A credential, certificate or diploma in a technical career

Once you and your student have viewed the Admissions Session:
1. Determine your Career and College Promise Pathway –
Write the Pathway name and Code on your Verification Form. Please refer
to the Dual Credit Allowances Document for information on how the high school
credits dual courses.
There are two types of Career and College Promise Pathways:
o College Transfer Pathways – GTCC offers seven different college transfer
pathways
o Career/Technical Education Pathways – GTCC offers numerous certificate and diploma programs.

2. Complete the Application Packet (forms are attached). (Signatures may be obtained by email.)
The Application Packet includes:
o GTCC Application for Admission – Student signature required on page 2. Please do not include the social security number on the application for admission.
o Verification of Student Eligibility Form – Please make sure that you have all signatures required and that you have included the pathway.
o Year-End High School Transcript – courses must be listed by grade level, signed and dated by principal and include a cumulative unweighted GPA.
Please send a copy of your latest transcript with the admissions packet. If you attend a public high school, you may request this through cfnc.org. Please provide your High School ID # on the Verification Form. If your transcript is in a sealed envelope, you may open it and scan it.
o Copy of Home School State Registration (if applicable)
o Consent to Release Form – to be completed by the student.
o Media Release Form – to be completed by the parent.
3. Scan your application packet and email the documents as attachments using the attach
button to ccp@gtcc.edu. Do not copy and paste the documents into the body of the email.
Once you have submitted your application packet:
o Please be checking the email listed on your application. If something is missing, you will be notified. After the application is processed, the applicant will receive an email with Titan Account Activation Instructions.
o After activating your Titan account, please log into your GTCC Titan Email and check it frequently. You will receive registration instructions around March 1, 2021. Applicants who apply after March 15, will receive registration instructions after their application is processed.
o Once you have registered for classes, you will be sent an email with instructions for our mandatory online CCP Orientation.
Please keep in mind that the purpose of CCP is for eligible high school students to earn college credits towards a college degree, diploma, or certificate.
Dual credit for high school graduation requirements is a bonus, but should not be what drives course selection. Courses in the CCP transfer pathways should be selected based on the published bachelor degree plan for the major at the university the student intends to transfer to after high school.
The Guilford Apprenticeship Partners program is still accepting applications. If you are an interested junior or senior, it’s not too late to apply!
