SWHS Principal's Weekly Updates for October 2, 2017

Good evening, this is Mike Hettenbach, Principal of Southwest Guilford High School.

What a way to start the weekend with a big Football win over #1 in the state, Dudley High School. Great job to the coaches, players and everyone else who made that happen!

This Wednesday is an early release ay for all students. Students will be released at 1:35.

Parents, as a reminder, in a way to raise funds for the PTSA, we are requesting a $5 donation each semester. This donation will provide one of your children with a wristband that will allow them to have a jean day every 4th Friday of the month, along with a couple special dates that we will communicate ahead of time. We will do this process again the 2nd semester as well. Our wristbands should arrive this week in order to start selling them on Wednesday and Thursday October 4th and 5th in all lunches. Anyone who purchases and wears their wristband will be able to participate in our first jean day, this Friday. We will have a second jean day on October 27th as well for those who have purchased and are wearing their bracelet. More information will be shared with the students during morning and afternoon announcements this week. Thank you for helping the PTSA!

GTCC camnpus tours will be available during the week of October 9th. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, GTCC will conduct tours from 10-11, 12-1 and 2-3. Students can show up at the Medlin Campus Center Lobby on the 2nd floor at one of the times just listed. 

Sophomores and parents, please fill out the survey on the SWHS website. This can be located by clicking on Student Services, then Counselling, and then Sophomore Information. The Class of 2020 Sophomore Survey is the third link from the top. Please answer the 8 short questions so Mr. Hawkins, the 10th grade counselor, can start sending out weekly correspondences to all of you.

All Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the PSAT this year. The date is currently scheduled for October 11th.The PSAT is a college readiness test that has several benefits for High School students. As our school will be testing 817 students on October 11th, there will be a limited number of calculators available. We are asking that all students who are able to, please bring their own calculators for testing. A list of approved calculators is now located on the school's website. More information will be shared with 10th and 11th graders during homeroom on October 5th.
