SWHS Principal's weekly updates for April 23

Good evening, this is Mike Hettenbach, Principal of Southwest Guilford High School with your weekly updates and reminders...

Thank you for all of your heartfelt contributions you have delivered to our campus this week. We will make sure these items are certainly received by the Erwin, Peeler and Hampton communities, students and their families, as well as staff. As our community faced such a tragic event, it does not surprise me in the least how our community has stepped up and demonstrated such a high level of care for those in need. Please know we will still accept contributions for at least another week. Feel free to bring those items to the main foyer of our school and we will make sure those in charge will get the items delivered.  Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.

This past week, report cards were handed out to students. Please make sure you are aware of your child's grades. Make sure you have access to Parent Assist to monitor your child's attendance and grades. If you do not have access and are unsure of how to sign up, please feel free to contact the school and ask for our data manager, Kristy Cline to assist you. The first interim reports for the 4th quarter will be distributed on Thursday for all students. This means we have just 6 weeks left until the last day of school. With exams scheduled the last 5-8 days of school, we are looking at a little more than 4 weeks of instruction. It is imperative that students are focused on their academics, behavior and any make up time as we will be finished for the year before we know it. Parents, please make sure you take advantage of the ParentAssist program and stay in touch with your child's teachers if questions or concerns are needing to be answered.

This Wednesday is an early release day at 1:35. Students must leave campus at 1:35 on early release days.

This Thursday, we have another PTSA Jean day. Any student who has purchased a wrist band for the 2nd semester can wear jeans on this day. Any student still wishing to purchase a band can do so by seeing Mrs. Repko in the Freshman Academy.

This week, the award winning theater program will be putting on their rendition of Alice in Wonderland Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Show times are 6:30 on both Thursday and Friday and 2:00 on Sunday. The program will be held in the SWHS auditorium.

Parents, as a reminder, student drop off is in front of the school, not by the gym. Also, please make sure if your child drives to the campus, they are aware they must have a parking pass, and if not, their car can be towed. Parking passes can be obtained form Mrs. Barnum, the 11th grade administrator.

Seniors and parents of seniors, please make sure all scholarship/grant awards are turned in to their counselor even if they will not be attending the university that has given them the award. Also, Cap and Gown pictures are Wednesday. Please make sure any seniors who are wanting cap and gown photos are to sign up outside Mrs. Bratton's door and bring money to the photoshoot.

As it relates to the weekly athletics, please feel free to navigate to the www.cowboysports.org website for detailed information.
