Southwest Guilford High School Principal's message for the week of February 27, 2017

Good evening, this is Mike Hettenbach, Principal of Southwest Guilford High School.

I have just a few quick items to share with you.

This week, Tuesday, February 28th, is an early release day, 1:35 dismissal. All students will report to homerooms as seniors will be receiving graduation supplies, juniors will be taking their ACT, and sophomores will be going over class rings and be involved with a grade level meeting from their counselor, Mrs. Richards.

Seniors - Service Learning deadlines are coming up. Wednesday March 15th is the final submission for all service learning approval forms. Also, The Herff Jones representative will be back on campus on Tuesday, February 28th to collect any money you owe for senior supplies you ordered in the fall. If you have paid your full balance, you will be able to pick up your supplies. They will only accept cash and money orders on this day, If you prefer to pay by credit card, you can call the number on the balance-due sheet or go online to pay per the directions on the envelope. Please know that Southwest staff members do NOT collect money or hand out graduation supply orders.

This Tuesday, from 4-6, we are holding a Black History Talent Showcase in the auditorium. Tickets are $2 and all proceeds go to the SWHS STARRS program. Please come out and support this event!

We have a wonderful presentation coming up on April 3rd from 6-8 pm in the media center called the Poe Center's Drugs Uncovered: What parents need to know!  As society is seeing an increase in drug use and drug related health problems, the SW PTSA is sponsoring this fantastic program for parents to gain tools for prevention as well as get information on how to respond if you think your child or their friends are experimenting with drugs and alcohol. There is no fee but registration is encouraged and can be accessed on the SWHS web page.

If you know of any current 8th graders who are planning on attending SW next year, please share with them that the rising 9th graders will be visiting our school on Thursday, March 9th in the morning and parents are invited that evening to get an overview of the curriculum as well as visit all the options available during our curriculum fair from 6:30-8.If you have any questions, please contact the 9th grade counselor, Ms. Compton.


The Southwest Band is partnering with Imagine Travel to raffle off a Caribbean vacation to an all-inclusive Hard Rock resort. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any band student or Dr. McIvor.  Airfare is not included and the winner must be at least 18 years old.  The drawing will be held at the band and orchestra Pre-MPA concert on March 16, and additional information can be found on the band website.  

As it relates to athletics this week, the following home events are as followed:
Monday night  - Men's Varsity Baseball and Women's Soccer at home
Tuesday night - Men's Varsity Tennis, Men's JV  & Varsity Lacrosse, Women's JV and Varsity Softball
Wednesday night - Men's Varsity Baseball, Women's JV & Varsity Softball
Thursday night - Men's Varsity Tennis, Coed Varsity Track
Friday Night - Men's Varsity Lacrosse

Get your tickets now for the $10,000 reverse raffle dinner event sponsored by the SW Athletic Booster Club. Cost of the tickets is $100 per person. The date is set for March 25th. So come join us for a night of fun, great food, lots of excitement, and a chance to take home 10 grand in cash! Tickets can be purchased at SWGHS. 
   
A reminder that Winter Sports banquet is March the 13th at 6:30. RSVPs have been distributed and need to be returned to Coach Christman by March 10th in order to attend.

Southwest Guilford High School's Principal message for the week of February 20, 2017

Good evening, this is Mike Hettenbach, Principal of Southwest Guilford High School.

I have just a few quick items to share with you.

First, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Beverly Dye, who has been recently appointed as the interim Assistant Principal over 9th grade. Mrs. Dye is a retired principal and has even worked at Southwest Middle School so she is very knowledgeable of the community. Welcome Mrs. Dye!

Parents; this week, we will be visited by an AdvancEd accreditation team on Thursday and Friday. Also, on Friday, the PTSA is providing a luncheon to the staff. We greatly appreciate everything parents along with the PTSA do for our staff through out the year.

Tuesday night  - we will host both the boys and girls Basketball 6:00 and 7:30
After we win BOTH games, we will then proceed on to host both games THursday evening as well.

Saturday 2/18 - Men's Varsity Baseball vs Grimsley @ 12:00 PM Noon
This week is the Piedmont Triad Conference Basketball Tournament hosted by Northwest Guilford H.S. The Men's team will play Tuesday Night at 7:30 PM and the Women's team will play Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. Once they both advance, the Cowgirls will play for the tournament championship at 6:00 PM and the Cowboys will play at 7:30 PM on Friday night, February 17th. Come on out and Show your Support!!

Southwest Guilford High School Principal's Message for the Week of February 6, 2017

Good evening, this is Wayne Duggins, Principal of Southwest Guilford High School.

I have just a few quick items to share with you.

Parents: Student report cards will be coming home tomorrow, Monday, February 6th. The reports will be given to students at the end of the day in their homerooms. If you have any questions after you seeing the report, please call the school to speak with your child's teacher.
