SWHS Principals weekly updates and reminders for February 5th

Good evening Southwest community!

This coming week is School Counselor's Appreciation Week. Please help me in recognizing the work our School Counseling Department does for your children. There is far more work than most people understand what these talented individuals do on a daily basis. I personally want to thank Mrs. Compton, Ms. Durant, Ms. Graves, Mr. Hawkins, Mrs. Hudgens and Mrs. Richards for the work they contribute to the school. Thank you on behalf of Southwest High School.

A gentle reminder to please pay attention to the speed limit and those around you when driving on Barrow and Southwest School roads. All students have been reminded during morning announcements as well, but the extra reminders from the homes could certainly help as well. Another reminder about driving, students should never be dropped off in the student parking lot. That parking lot is for staff, students and soon morning buses. All student drop off should occur in the front of the campus. Never should students be dropped off on Barrow Road, SW School road as well. Please help us be as safe as possible.

As a reminder, with the grading issues from the state, our report card distribution is on hold at this moment. Please understand that this only impacted our Q1 and Q2 grades, not the final grades or GPAs for SWHS.

Juniors, with the ACT coming up on February 20th, there is an ACT Prep Academy is Thursday, Feb. 7 Say Yes Guilford will host an ACT Prep Academy on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Guilford Technical Community College Jamestown Campus, Center for Advanced Manufacturing,
located at 6012 W. Gate City Blvd. Juniors and seniors who will be taking the ACT in Spring 2019 or Fall 2019 are invited to attend.

Please mark your calendar as February 11th is the PTSA Walk the Schedule Night. This is an opportunity to meet your student's teachers for the 2nd semester. The event starts at 5:30 in the SWHS Auditorium and will then proceed into following your student's schedule. We look forward to seeing you there.
Another great event is February 25th. This is our curriculum night for all under classmen and rising 9th graders. Spread the word! While all students and parents will be able to interact with teachers of all the curricular opportunities at SW, we will also have an AP potential overview as well as FAFSA completion session for those who haven’t completed the FAFSA or have questions regarding it.
This night is a no miss event!
Please continue to reinforce to your student to be wearing the card at all times. We want the students in the habit of displaying the cards at all times, blue lanyard around the neck, not in the pocket, not inside the shirt, etc. As I have mentioned before, this is a safety and security layer that has been added to the school and we greatly appreciate your support with this project. There will be more features surrounding the OneCard, so it is important to get in the habit of wearing it at all times. Please know all students will be responsible for card and lanyard replacements come February 1st.
