SWGHS Principal's weekly updates for Oct 29

Hello Southwest Guilford High School!

I hope this message finds everyone doing well! What a great week we just had. The school was decorated unbelievable for homecoming week, truly the best I have seen in the past 11 years. I am so proud of the students and adults who participated in making Homecoming a great wee and how the students responded in such a typical respectful Southwest manner. This is yet another one of the many reasons why I am such a proud principal.

A gentle reminder that this Monday is a Teacher workday so there is no school for students. We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus on Tuesday!

Wednesday is the Pre-Act for Sophomores. This is approximately a 4 hour session so please make sure your student has slept well and had a nutritious breakfast. Students, if at all possible, should bring a graphing or scientific calculator with them.

Seniors will be placing their graduation supply orders this Wednesday during set time. Once all seniors have had this opportunity, they will be allowed the option to have lunch and then dismissed thereafter.

This Thursday is Halloween. Please know that at Southwest Guilford High School we do not allow costumes or accessories of any kind on this day. Additionally, we ask all families to make sure students are not bringing in any candy they have accumulated during this time. Please keep the candy at home.

Registration for the 20/21 school year!
Nov. 4 - Nov. 15 in current English Classes. Students enrolled in English in the spring will also complete registration in the early part of the spring semester. Students must STILL LOG INTO POWERSCHOOL TO REGISTER IN THE SPRING SEMESTER. Please remember that the classes you register for are the classes we make every effort to get you in. These selections are how a a school wide scheduling matrix is created.

Students will receive a hard copy of the registration book to take home in the Spring of 2020.

An online copy of the registration book can be found here.

Information about Career & College Promise, GAP, and AP courses will be given to students in a folder that will be brought home.

Graduation Requirements

If your student is interested in earning college credit while in high school, sign up for Career & College Promise at GTCC.  SWHS provides transportation to and from classes at GTCC for classes that begin as early as 9AM and end as late as 2PM.
Dual Enrollment Transfer Classes can be found here and the pathways can be found here. Dual Enrollment Technical Pathway Classes can be found here.  If you are interested in this option, please let your school counselor know (ASAP) so that we can assist you with the process.

Counselors will adjust the course selection after they receive your enrollment information from GTCC.
OneCard identification badge wearing will be starting this week.  Students should have A OneCard and their own Lanyard. Please tell your student to ask one of their teachers, if they need a OneCard or a Lanyard.

Teachers will email Mr. Miller for missing cards, and teachers can also pick up extra Lanyards in the main office workroom.

Students will use the OneCards to
  1. Swipe into school
  2. Purchase Cafeteria Meals
  3. Checkout materials in the Media Center.
Please be patient during the first weeks of swiping as students will have to get used to the new flow of traffic and expectations.

Swiping starts at 7:40. Students should not bypass the machines until an adult on duty allows them to pass.

Yearbooks will be going on sale for ONE DAY only on Halloween, October 31. This is a buy one, get one free sale. Buy the 2020 yearbook at $70 and get last year's yearbook FREE. This promotion is only available to the first 60 students. Purchase your yearbook at the reduced rate in person with Mrs. Bratton in room D124. Cash or checks.
