SWHS Principal's weekly messages and reminders for March 4...

Good evening Southwest community!

This week is School Social Worker's Appreciation Week. We are very lucky to have one of the best in the business with Mrs. Michelle Phillips. If you have ever worked with Mrs. Phillips, please assist me in expressing your appreciation.

Registration planning is underway!  Counselors have met with all students except for a couple who were absent on the day that they met with their English classes.  Counselors will be meeting with these students next week.  Please ask your student about the folder that they received or will receive from their counselor.  The information includes an unofficial transcript, information about AP enrollment and AP Potential letters as well as information about Career & College Promise Dual Enrollment.
The registration window will be open for students to complete the online registration process 3/8-3/17.  Instructions will be shared with parents regarding the process.
It’s imperative that students and parents participate in the registration process as this helps us to decide which courses will be offered next school year. Feel free to click on this link to navigate to the registration process page.  Online registration.
GTCC will be hosting an open house for senior students that are interested in attending the college this coming Fall 2019 on April 4th from 10:00am – 2:00pm. The location of the event will take place on the main campus in Jamestown and the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) which is located about half a mile from the main campus.
Students will be presented with an information session that will incorporate the admissions process, financial aid, scholarship opportunities and college transfer options. Campus tours will be included in the open house event so students can get a sense of what it is like to be on a college campus. Finally, the students will have an opportunity to engage with faculty representing several of the colleges programs.
Please RSVP by Wednesday March 6th to your counselor if you wish to attend. Transportation is available!!!

This coming Friday is a Chic-Fila Day at the Palladium. Please visit Chic-Fila anytime on Friday during the morning, afternoon or night and mention SWHS so a portion of the profits come back to the SWHS PTSA.

Spring Blood Drive to this Sunday nights connect ed message? It is Tuesday March 26 9 am- 2 pm. Students must have an appointment. Staff and family members that want to donate can walk in anytime before 1 pm to donate. Please email Mrs. Dusek with any questions.

SWHS Principal's weekly updates and reminders for February 18th

Good evening Southwest community!

We still have plenty of report cards that have yet to be picked up. If you have not seen your child's report card, please call the school and ask for the guidance secretary, Ms. Sue Durant.

Wednesday is the ACT for Juniors. Seniors have a mandatory senior meeting in the Coggins Gym followed by an early release to visit colleges/universities, visit future job opportunities or shadowing, as well as working on applications. Freshmen and sophomores will be on campus all day. This is a big day for Juniors so please make sure they get some good rest, as well as prepare for the ACT in the days leading up to the exam.

Parents, please help me out with my previous requests to not drop off students in the athletic parking lot. We will now have a majority of buses dropping off in that lot, as well as our novice teenage drivers. With moving the buses to the back, we are hopefully helping out with our arrival times for students on buses, and also alleviating a little bit of the congestion at the front of our campus. Thank you for spreading this word.

SWHS Principals weekly updates and reminders for February 5th

Good evening Southwest community!

This coming week is School Counselor's Appreciation Week. Please help me in recognizing the work our School Counseling Department does for your children. There is far more work than most people understand what these talented individuals do on a daily basis. I personally want to thank Mrs. Compton, Ms. Durant, Ms. Graves, Mr. Hawkins, Mrs. Hudgens and Mrs. Richards for the work they contribute to the school. Thank you on behalf of Southwest High School.

A gentle reminder to please pay attention to the speed limit and those around you when driving on Barrow and Southwest School roads. All students have been reminded during morning announcements as well, but the extra reminders from the homes could certainly help as well. Another reminder about driving, students should never be dropped off in the student parking lot. That parking lot is for staff, students and soon morning buses. All student drop off should occur in the front of the campus. Never should students be dropped off on Barrow Road, SW School road as well. Please help us be as safe as possible.
