SWGHS Principal's weekly updates for June 3rd

Dear Southwest,

We are now entering our 2nd day of teacher made exams. State exams start on Tuesday. Please remember we do not release students early from any state exams. Please make prior adjustments with appointments, trips, etc.
As we approach graduation season, it has come to my attention that some of our seniors and families are selling their graduation tickets if they do not need them. That disappoints me greatly. Each and every morning as I have continued to reinforce to our student body and community "We are...Southwest!". I believe that every time I say that. However, I do not believe this behavior represents that motto. Please feel free to report anyone to me that is selling their graduation tickets as I will not issue the full 12 tickets to those graduates who plan to demonstrate this behavior. Parents will then be required to pick up the tickets they will need directly from me. If you have extra tickets, please share them with those in need. We are a family in this school and in within all the communities we serve and we need to respond accordingly by helping each other. Thank you.

As we are close to finishing this school year, anyone who is graduating or moving out of district, please consider donating your dress code clothes after your last exam. This will assist those who are in need throughout the years to come.

For rising seniors looking for a free block this upcoming school year, please complete the survey and the form found on the bookshelf outside of Mrs. Hudgens and Mrs. Richards’ office:

If any rising juniors or seniors are taking classes at GTCC please complete the form found on the weekly blog.  (Rising Juniors & Seniors)

SWHS Principal's weekly updates and reminders for May 20th

Hello Southwest!

With the approval from the Board of Education to cancel June 10th as a student day, exams have now been adjusted by one day. Please check the dates on the bottom of this blog on our website to see the update dates. This means we now have 8 days until teacher made exams begin. Please assist us with reminding your teenager to stay focused and not let anything distract them from finishing strong. Please utilize the Parent Assist program. If you are having difficulty accessing this program, please contact Mrs. Cline at clinek2@gcsnc.com
Interim reports are being distributed tomorrow to all students from all classes. Please review these to make sure your student is a positive situation as it relates to grades and attendance.

Yearbooks are here and will be distributed to students starting on May 24 at the senior picnic. Get yours before they are all sold out! Yearbooks are $80. You can pay Mrs. Bratton in D124 with cash or check. Checks should be written out to SWGHS.

Parents of seniors – if you or your child has not already ordered their cap and gown from Herff Jones, it must be ordered at this time in order to ensure that you receive it in time for graduation.  You must place your order at:  www.highschool.herffjones.com.  Graduation walk is this coming Friday before the senior picnic. You must have your robe and cap on during this walk.

All seniors need to have books returned to the library by May 29. If they need to pay for the books the deadline is June 3 or they won’t be able to walk at graduation.

If you are interested and able to judge for us this Tuesday, please contact Mrs. Meier in the media Center to let her know of your availability.  We appreciate your willingness to give your time to listen to our seniors present their projects.

Please remind seniors to inform their counselor about any scholarship amounts they have received.
Virtual learning registration forms for summer and fall are available.  Have the students see their counselor for more information.

Seniors who have not completed their Say Yes application at www.sayyesguilford.org must do so by June 1st. Do not think you are automatically ineligible. Please fill this out immediately.
